Protecting Your Information Online

An 18-year-old high school student hacked into a school's grading network. He stole passwords, changed grades, and installed new programs to allow him to access the network from any computer. This affected all the students and teachers at the school. If I was a student at that school, his actions might have changed my grades, and made the teachers less likely to post grades online.

A 19-year-old hacked into instant mesages, and invited a budy to view a social networking site, when in reality he installed a virus. This caused identity theft, and a broken computer.

An employee of a kitchenware company, turns the company's computers into robots that make money for him, even if he doesn't work. He uses botnet to infect computers all over Europe. He does this so that he can have pop-up ads display on command. Another company pays him for each installation. However, he has a trial and is sent to prison for three years and six months. This not only hurt him, but his employer lost installations he was counting on, and the people whose computers were affected had to deal with the pop-up ads.
